A new month and a new week of walks, culminating on Saturday morning with one on my home patch that finishes at some wonderful artists’ studios.
Monday 1st December:
In the morning I’ll be leading a tour of Greenwich. We’ll be travelling there by boat on the Thames, and finishing just in time for a lunch in one of Greenwich’s many eateries. Bring your camera and prepare to enjoy thsi splendid spot so near to central London, yet a world apart.
Meet at Tower Hill, by the Tramcar coffee stop for 10.30.
In the afternoon I shall be guiding the highlights of one of the most celebrated museums in the world – the British Museum*, or BM, as it is familiarly known.
Meet me outside Holborn tube on Kingsway for 2.15.
Tuesday 2nd December:
Away from the Christmas shoppers, we’ll be exploring Old Westminster. We’ll see the private and public faces of Westminster: the famous and familiar – Westminster Abbey and the Palace of Westminster – and the quiet streets just a stone’s throw away.
Meet me at Westminster tube, exit 4 for 2pm.
Friday 5th December:
Get into weekend mode with Along the Thames an entertaining pub walk with fabulous views of the City, and the prospect of mulled wine. Or hot chocolate if you prefer.
Meet outside Blackfriars tube station for 7pm.
Saturday 6th December:
The countdown to Christmas starts with Walworth Old and New which ends at artists’ studios, described by The Times as ‘seriously hip’ and by Terence Conran as the centre of London’s hand crafts.
En route from Kennington tube we’ll see the City Farm; the site of the Surrey Zoological Gardens;the birthplace of the Surrey County Cricket Club; a celebrated Soane church; one of London’s oldest markets; and much more.
Meet me outside Kennington tube for 10.45.
All walks cost £9, £7 for over 65s and full-time students, plus entry and travel fees where applicable.
