Walking the Elephant and Open House at the Cinema Museum

This way to the Cinema Museum

My walk around the Elephant and Castle this Sunday morning* coincides with London Open House weekend. Much has changed in the neighbourhood since I first started leading walking tours around the Elephant some fifteen years ago, and the tours have changed too.

This time the tour will finish at the very wonderful Cinema Museum on Dugard Way. It will be open as it is participating in Open House. As well as being able to see inside the museum, enjoy the refreshments available there, you may be able to join a tour.

Cinema Museum

With Charlie Chaplin born just down the road in Walworth, my own neighbourhood, there are obvious local links to the film industry.

But the museum, now under threat, is a treasure trove of cinematic memorabilia, artefacts, enthusiasm. Tomorrow evening Barry Cryer will be there in conversation with Michael Pointon, one of many events hosted by the museum.

* Walk starts outside Elephant and Castle tube, London Road (LSBU) exit at 10.45. It will last around two hours and costs £10pp, payable in cash on the day.
